Sort of.
A little bit.
I’ve been focusing more on writing than on applying, of
late, because writing is much less depressing.
Especially when you’ve put aside the 2nd book in a series
that is getting NO attention from publishers to dash out some romantic bullshit
in a desperate and pathetic attempt to make a quick buck.
No, that’s a bit harsh.
It’s not just about the money (though I do hope that I could make a
little bit with a romance novel…that whole area seems so hot right now). I’d also just like to get SOMETHING published
so that I can make contacts in the publishing world who would hopefully be
willing to at least look at my real
work.
So yes, I’m writing a romance novel. It’s actually kind of fun to write…especially
since I’m putting hardly any thought into it, and am not worrying about trivial
details like the quality of the writing (from what I’ve seen, that hardly seems
to matter).
…okay, okay. That’s a
lie. I am worrying about all of
that. Just not as much as I did with Traditor.
But I am still applying, despite an increasing conviction
that Traditor should be renamed Trash-itor. Rejection after rejection…I know Rowling and
L’Engle went through the same thing, but I’m no Rowling or L’Engle. Still, I pulled myself from the swamp of
sorrows long enough to send out a quick submission today to an agent I’ve been
considering for some time. Now I’ll go
rejoin Artax for a few more days before trying to submit again.
So that’s all for now.
Next time maybe I’ll give a more detailed update on the romance
novel. Maybe I’ll even have good news on
the publishing front!
Maybe.
Still buying those lottery tickets, though.
